- September 1916: Bowhill – Accident to a Miner – A rather serious accident has befallen Walter Rugvie, miner, residing at Helenview, Dundonald, in Dundonald pit, belonging to the Lochgelly Iron and Coal Company. He was employed on the back shift, and was repairing the road for the coal cutting machine, when a large stone fell from the roof, striking him on the back and pinning him to the pavement. Some men working near soon had Rugvie extricated from his perilous position and conveyed home, when it was discovered that the unfortunate man had four ribs broken and was otherwise bruised. Dr Craig, Cowdenbeath, and Dr Walker, Craigderran, were in attendance. [Lochgelly & Kelty News 5 September 1916]
