- Details of Event
- As the men in the morning shift were going into their work along the main East Haulage Road, on deceased and a man named John Davies reaching a certain point a fall of roof occurred which fell more or less upon them both. Davies was practically uninjured, while Rudge received injuries from which he died the same day. The road appeared to be in good order, no squeeze at the place and no broken timbers. Apparently a ball of "mine" or ironstone loosened from the side, above the collars, falling over against the laggings, displaced them, causing them to fall between the double timbers and let down the loose stone which was resting upon them. About two trains full fell.
