He was working on a platform 3 feet 6 inches wide, in front of a winding engine-house The platform was not fenced. He was probably struck by the winding rope when passing underneath it along the platform and was knocked to the ground level 22 feet below. The platform was seldom used and repairs to the engine house were being done.
