- 11 January 1915: Seafield and Deans - Fatal Result of An Accident - On Friday, in No.3 Mine, Deans Works, belonging to Pumpherston Oil Coy. Ltd, Joseph Roy, miner, residing at Livingston, was severely burned. It appears that he was using a naked lamp when he entered a place where there was a pocket of gas. He was severely burned about the face and hands. The same day he was removed to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. On Monday morning, despite every medical attention he succumbed to his injuries. Joseph Roy, miner, Beechwood Cottages, Livingston Station, died on 11 January 1915 at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, from injuries sustained on 8 January 1915 in No. 3 Shale Mine, Deans by Bathgate, Linlithgowshire, in a gas explosion. NAS Reference: SC41/13/1915/5
