He was building a pack wall in a gateway and had his back to the coal, while he was Cridding a top canch shot. In attempting to lift a large stone he slipped and fell, and the stone pinned him against the wall. He complained of pain in the chest and back but there was not any external sign of injury. He did not work again and died on November 16th. As the result of a post-mortem examination the jury found that he had died from heart failure accelerated by the accident which occurred to him three months previously.
