- 25 April 1928: Muirkirk Miners' Remarkable Escape - Whilst at work yesterday in Kames Pit, belonging to Wm Baird &; Co., Muirkirk, two men, Robert Bradford (38), married, residing at Donaldo Place, Muirkirk, and Patrick Mackin (16), residing at Kames Row, Muirkirk, were buried under a heavy fall of coal. The relief parties took two hours to dig them out, but after examination it was found that apart from severe bruises both men escaped from other injuries. One of the men, Bradford, fainted on being released. They were both medically attended at the pit and removed home in the ambulance [Scotsman 26 Apr 1928]
