Deceased was at work in a wide heading with a gradient from the side to the rise of 1 in 2. He had been engaged holing on the rise side and was preparing a hole for the wedge in the slotting coal, when about 3 cwt. of coal fell away from a smooth parting, level with the sprag top, and pushed deceased against a prop, fracturing and dislocating the spine, from which he died on 25th May.
