- Roof fall. A Colliery Brusher who died in Stirling Royal Infirmary, 16 months after being injured by a fall of stone from the roof in the underground workings of Fallin Colliery, was the subject of a Fatal Accident Inquiry conducted by Sheriff Burn-Murdoch at Stirling on Monday. He was Francis Bernard Rooney (36), 24 Baker Street, Stirling and he died on 28 August from a fracture of lumber of the spine and an infection of the bladder, resulting from the accident in which he was involved on 17 April 1942. Dr W.J. Bell, House Surgeon, Stirling Royal Infirmary, said that when Rooney was taken into the Infirmary, he was suffering from paralysis of both legs and there were signs indicating fracture of the spine in the lumber region. X Ray revealed fracture and dislocation of the lumber part of the spine and an infection of the bladder was also discovered. Death was entirely attributed to the accident. (Stirling Observer).
