- Details of Event
- He appears to have strained himself on the 16th October, and to have worked two shifts afterwards. A doctor saw him on the 20th, and diagnosed a small lump or tumour. He appears to have passed this through his bowels during the day, and serious internal haemorrhage occurred which lasted for nearly a week. He died on 28th May, 1909, probably from a tumour or cancer, but as no post-mortem was made it could not be stated with certainty which it was. Death apparently resulted from the effects of a strain received in the course of his work by assisting to lift a full tram on the rails. It would probably not have been heard of before the Compensation Act came into force and in any case it is not even now altogether certain that it is one which is comprised under the Coal Mines Regulation Act.
