- Died February 24. Deceased who was the son of the foreman enginewright of the colliery attended to the steam throttle valve of an air compressing plant. He was stepping across the space between one of the steam and air cylinders while the engines were running when his foot was jammed between a sleeve connecting the piston of the steam cylinder to the piston of the air cylinder and a projecting screwed bolt on the steam cylinder. He developed lock-jaw'and was removed to Newcastle Infirmary where he died. The particular point where he crossed was not fenced as it was so far above the floor level.
