He was siding over to win out a longwall gateway which had closed, the roof stone being composed of a short blue metal. The place was well timbered, but a fall of roof stone took place between the rows of props. His back was broken, and he died in Hartlepool Hospital on 10th June, 1912. There was apparently no want of care on the part of deceased.
