He and his mate had loaded the bottom deck of the cage when 14 full tubs followed down to the shaft and crushed him against an air pipe. It was the duty of the deceased and the man working along with him to put lockers in the wheels of the tubs to prevent them running down in this way, but they neglected to do so. The gradient in favour of the full tubs is very slight and they had evidently thought they would stand without lockers. Died October 21st.
