- Crushed by loader. A distressing accident occurred on Saturday (21 November 1936) in No.3 Pit, Polmaise Colliery, when William Robertson, Miner's Drawer, 10 Murdoch Place, Cowie, was killed. The mishap took place about 4.45 in the afternoon when Robertson, who was only 18 years of age, was engaged along with others working in No.11 level of the Hartley Seam, in shifting the diamond belt loader, which weighed about a ton. It had been loaded on to a hutch which Robertson was assisting to push along when the front of the loader slipped on top of him breaking his neck. Death was instantaneous. (Stirling Journal).
