- Fourteen holes were bored in a whinstone quarry eight horizontal and six vertical on the top the latter from 10ft. to 16ft. deep. All were to be charged with Kynoch gelignite and fired by electricity. At the time of the accident the horizontal holes were charged and the wires were fixed to the detonators together with two of the top holes and while the third vertical hole was being charged an explosion occurred. The tool being used to press home the charges after they had bean dropped into the hole was a wooden rod. The cartridges being inserted into the hole were in a frozen condition. 2 killed.
