- Details of Event
- Deceased and others were examining a whinstone block under the empty jib of a steam crane, when it suddenly came down on them, injuring deceased so badly that he succumbed a few hours later. Another man was also injured. The pawl teeth were found to have fractured, but no flaw was seen in the metal. It was thought that the pawl finger had not been properly down and had slipped then caught again, so causing the fracture.
