He hurt his knee at the colliery, and inflammation set in necessitating an operation in about a fortnight from the day of the accident. The knee was again opened on two occasions, but the case continued to give much trouble to the doctors. Ultimately the leg was amputated above the knee joint. He grew worse and finally died from hypoststic congestion of the lungs which the doctor in evidence at the inquest stated to be due to low condition of health brought about by the accident Died 11th July.
