- Roof fall. A colliery brusher was killed and two of his mates had narrow escapes when falls from the roof took place in No 2 pit, Polmaise Colliery, MilIhall, on Wednesday night. The first fall completely buried John Boyd (25), brusher, 62 Morrison Drive, Bannockburn and partially buried John Scott (24), brusher, 23c Main Street, Bannockburn. Scott was pulled clear at once but it was two hours before Boyd's body was recovered. Death was due to asphyxia. Boyd was a married man with one of a family. A second fall took place trapping John Marshall (29), brusher, 20 Hope Street, Stirling, but he was rescued. The trapped men were released by Arthur Watt (37), miner, Firs Crescent, Bannockburn and deputy Daniel Cairney. Marshall was trapped when he went to try to rescue Boyd and Scott. Watt and Cairney found him trapped by the legs. (Stirling Observer).
