Details of Event
This accident occurred on a main road which was being driven to the dip. The roof was supported by double timber, with lagging over the collars. Deceased was leading water out from the face, and when coming out-bye with his horse and the full water-cart in front of him, the reef suddenly collapsed for the whole of its width, 11ft., and 7 to 8ft. in length, to a height of 6 to 7 ft., burying him. The timber was of oak, not more than 24ft. apart, and had only been in six weeks. The fall came down in one piece.
