The first of a journey of eighteen full trams coming up an engine plane dip got off the raiis and resulted in the breakage of the large link of the bridle or bull chain. The flying rope struck him and broke his leg badly causing great loss of blood from the effects of which he died on the 11th December. It also struck and injured the master haulier. Some of the means who had attended the St. John of Jeruselam's Ambulance Classes rendered first aid but without being able to stop the bleeding.
