- Details of Event
- He was breaking and filling stone in the quarry bottom when he heard a large stone coming down the face. He was running to get clear when the stone, some four cwts. in weight, beat and broke on large piece of stone in the quarry bottom and a fragment hit him in the right side. He died the same night from his injuries. The stone fell 44 feet on to an irregular benching, and then a further 20 feet into tile quarry bottom. It came away from between natural joints. The face had been dressed down only a few days before. Doubtless the vibration caused by some light shots tired in the vicinity had loosened the stone and caused it to fall half an hour after the last shot.
