- 14 August 1916: Cowdenbeath – Brusher Killed – Yesterday, Andrew Ritchie, a brusher, was accidentally killed in Moss Side Pit, No.1, Cowdenbeath. Ritchie, who was about 32 years of age, had been engaged in firing a shot in the “East Diamond” seam when the charge went off prematurely, killing Ritchie instantaneously. He had been in lodgings at High Street, Cowdenbeath, but belonged to Glasgow district, where his widow and daughter reside. [Lochgelly & Kelty News 15 August 1916]
