- Details of Event
- He and another hewer were turning away a split wall out of a wide bord and had kirved 3 feet under in the bottom for a width of 10 feet. They had two jud props set and a hole ready bored at the left side for a shot. When the deputy came in to charge the hole both hewers retired, but Riley at once returned and knocked out the inbye jud prop. The front portion of the jud and also some ramble at once fell away and caught him. There had apparently been a fracture in the ramble, and as it had a smooth parting the weight of the stone was sufficient to break down the front part of the jud when the prop was removed.
