- Details of Event
- Deceased and other three men were straightening a gate by removing a pack from one side and placing it on the other, under the charge of a well experienced man, when a bump took place and a piece of stone 6 feet 4 inches long by 3 feet 7 inches wide by 4 inches thick at the one side and trailing to a feather edge at the other, flashed out of the rock roof and caught arid fatally injured him. He died the following day. A barrier of coal was being left between this and neighbouring colliery on one side of the gate, and this no doubt had something to do with the accident.
