- Details of Event
- Deceased was working single in a headways place 5 yards wide, the seam being 3 feet thick, worked bord and pillar, when a fall of roof occurred, whirls ran out six props as well as a set of gears with three props under the plank. The roof is blue with some coal 1 feet 4 inches thick up to a good strong cover and the fall had come away over the whole width of the place, and for 3 yards back from the coal face up to the stronger roof. The place had turned wet the previous two days, which would make the stone greasy and inclined to come away from the parting. There were no signs of any slips in the roof. It is supposed that some props had been knocked out when shooting the coal down, and that deceased was in the act of resetting these when the fall took place.
