Details of Event
16 February 1929: Blantyre - Colliery Accident - Early on Saturday morning, Joseph Rhodes, who resides at 67 Craig Street, Blantyre, and was employed as a night fireman in Auchinraith Colliery, was engaged in his usual duties when he was suddenly caught by a fall of stones. He was removed to the surface, where medical aid was summoned, and a doctor ordered his removal to the Royal Infirmary for fuller examination. We learn that he was found to be suffering from severe internal bruises but is getting on quite satisfactorily. [Hamilton Advertiser 23 February 1929]
