- The two deceased men and chargeman of considerable experience, were taking girders out on a horse road in the Haigh Moor seam in order to make height. A deputy went to the place and found two girders had been taken out, and he stayed till another was got down and set three temporary props set under the stone and thinking all was safe left the men. Within ten minutes of his doing so a bump occurred and displaced the props and a stone measuring 10 feet 8 inches long by 7 feet 7 inches wide by 10 inches thick at one end and running to nothing at the other fell and caught and killed these two men and injured the third. 2 killed.
