- Runaway hutch. 2 killed. Two Fallin Miners were fatally injured in an accident which occurred in No.4 Pit, Polmaise Colliery, Fall in early on Friday evening (15 January 1943). The men concerned were Alexander Rennie (71), Colliery Fireman and Pumpman, 12 A Block, Fallin and James Dawson (52), Colliery Roadman, 12 Woodside Place, Fallin, both of whom were working on an incline on the main haulage road, when they were struck by a runaway hutch loaded with wood. Rennie suffered severe head injuries and he died in Stirling Royal Infirmary on Saturday morning. Dawson suffered from a fracture of the left leg and also died in the Infirmary on Sunday.
