- Details of Event
- The part of the quarry where this accident happened is known as the ‘Town’ Quarry and is about 120 feet deep No slate was being obtained there, the men being engaged in removing rubbish to enable good metal to be worked below. The Town Quarry has been worked for many years and no accident had previously occurred there. The practice has been to work the bottom up during the summer months so that the top may he brought down during the winter. The working face at the time of the accident was nearly vertical, and a small piece of rock fell without any warning from a point about 55 feet above the quarry floor and struck Relph, who was filling a truck, on the head.
