While descending the shaft with other men in the top deck of the cage the cage stuck a few feet from the platform, and while deceased was climbing out it fell away and crushed him against the landing plates. The cause of the cage sticking was not discovered. The rail guides and cage shoes were in good order. Something may have got in between a shoe and a guide, but nothing was found.
