Deceased was knocked down by a tram laden with rubbish. A rider filled a tram with rubbish off the sides of an engine plane at the end of the shift and with the assistance of an assistant fireman pushed it out some distance to where the outward dip became greater. Then they spragged two of the wheels and allowed it to run unattended to the parting where it knocked deceased down. He was a cripple and must have gone down the pit 45 minutes before the usual time so as to have plenty of time to walk quietly to his lamp cabin for the night shift. The men said that they did not think that anyone would be coming in.
