- Fall of roof on road; a loaded tram becoming derailed, knocked out a pair of timbers, and damaged the railway. A fireman sent the roadman to repair, and set the railway to gauge. While the work was proceeding, a wedge-shaped piece of stone fell from the roof, which had previously been supported by the pair of timbers, fell upon, and so injured him that he died on the 12th of August. The fireman was at fault in that he did not test and secure the roof after the timbers fell, and before the man was set to work at the place. Middle Seam. Safety lamps.
