He was working in a level taking some side off, and he and another man were fixing a drilling machine. To do this, it was necessary to cut a hole in the stone. He was in the act of doing this, when he fell backwards with his neck on a loose sleeper lying by the side of the road. Death was almost instantaneous, his neck being broken by the fall.
