Deceased and another putter whilst waiting for loads went into a longwall face and commenced to hew coals without permission, and without setting proper timber. A fall of roof (post) occurred over a length of about 20 feet, and a width of 4 feet. Deceased was completely buried and killed instantly by the fall. His father (Robert) had been killed in the same pit three years earlier buried in Easington Lane Cemetery.
