It was his duty to divide the main sets up into smaller sets at the main landing of a district and to despatch them into the various branch landings, but before doing so he had to put the 10 feet length of coupling chain into the first tub of the set. On this occasion he told another boy to rap the set "away" before he had put the chain into the tub, and he was doing this when the set moved away, with the result that his head was crushed between the top of the tub and a balk.
