Ray was building a pack wall between two chocks 5 feet apart when without warning a piece of clod, about 1 foot thick and 4 feet 6 inches by 2 feet 6 inches, fell from a slip and a break. The fall struck him on the leg and caused a compound dislocation of the knee. Gangrene supervened, and he died on March 12th.
