Deceased and two others were drilling a shot hole in the coal in a longwall face which had been holed by a coal cutting machine during the previous night. They had already drawn the sprags and stretchers and taken down a portion of the coal and the shot was intended to bring down the remainder. It came away suddenly without warning, and threw deceased forward against a jig post breaking his neck. The accident would probably have been prevented had the sprags and stretchers been reset, as required by Special Rule 79. Deceased was leading man in the place at the time.
