He was driving a plug in one of the tubes in a locomotive boiler when the tube slipped back, allowing the water out of the boiler to escape, which scalded the lower parts of his body. He succumbed to the injuries received March 24, 1908. The locomotive had stood without fire from 8pm. previous evening until 1.30am when the accident occurred.
