- Details of Event
- He was hewing in the Maudlin Seam in a wall 14 feet wide. He was working alone and was found by the putter, on his taking an empty tub into him, lying under one large stone, which had dropped out from a slip in the soft blue shale overlying the seam and from a jack running into the slip forming a more or less dome-shaped piece of loose roof. A prop was lying close to the stone but it is not certain whether this had been set up or not. Otherwise the place was well timbered; the stone fell from just between two props and planks set 3 feet apart.
