- Details of Event
- 14 June 1915: Larkhall – Colliery Fatality – John Ramage, a youth of about 17 years of age, son of John Ramage, 37 Gowanside Place, Larkhall, has died as the result of injuries received early on Monday morning in Machar Colliery. It seems that Ramage, who was a pit bottomer, was working at the Kiltongue seam bottom, when he fell down to the pit bottom, a distance of about 60 feet. He was brought to the surface and examined by Dr Morrison, who ordered his removal to the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, by motor ambulance waggon. Ramage died in the Infirmary about 8 o'clock in the evening without having regained consciousness. He was a quiet, industrious lad, and much sympathy is felt for his parents in their sudden and sad bereavement. [Hamilton Herald 16 June 1915]
