He was engaged with his father in driving a jenkin by the side of an old bord. There is a treacherous band of metal about 2 feet thick halfway up the face of the coal, and this band is a source of great trouble in broken work. Deceased was hewing, when a piece of the band came over from the face and struck his side. The unfortunate man did not think that he was seriously injured, but he died a few hours later.
