Deceased and other man were walking up a drift close in rear of a journey of 20 full trams, when a shackle broke and 14 trams ran back. The barhook acted and threw the last few trains off the road, the third catching deceased as he was making for a manhole. They were warned by three persons against following the journey so closely but persisted in their conduct. The broken shackle showed a large internal flaw.
