- Details of Event
- Deceased and his marrow were working in the back shift in a 4 yard lift in broken workings in the Maudlin seam. The lift had gone about 10 feet and deceased was preparing to set a prop his marrow holding a light when a heavy fall of roof took place displacing several props and covering deceased and fastening his marrow by the foot. The fall was 10 feet long and 4.5 feet wide and varied in thickness up to 5 feet. It was relieved by a breaker on one side and a slip on the other. The foreshift deputy had thoroughly examined the place at 8a.m. but the backshift deputy had not reached it. The overman was in about half an hour before the accident. There was a good supply of loose timber. The Local Inspectors reported ‘We are of the opinion that it was a pure accident.’
