Deceased, who was accustomed to the work was taking the place of the rope coiler at the main engine in the Upper seam. A few minutes before the accident the electric lights in the engine house went out, as the dynamo was stopped for the purpose of oiling, &c. Deceased hung his safety lamp in a place where it showed light on the coils and was in all probability sitting on the fence doing his work when he must have slipped off and fallen with his legs on either side of the pinion. He received injuries from which he died on the same day. There was no need for him to have got inside the fence to do the work.
