- Details of Event
- Deceased was stowing a dip with rubbish lowered by a hauling engine. A loaded tram got off the rails in going down and deceased and the rider put it on. He then walked down the dip and as the rider started the tram to follow him the rope broke and the tram ran down and struck deceased on his side. The rope was said to have worked for five weeks only but this was not borne out by the condition of the rope. It had been knotted in five places and a length of one strand was missing. The rope was 3-8ins. in diameter and the dip was 1 in 9. Deceased died in two days.
