His butty or the responsible collier was wedging a piece of coal off the face when a fall of roof occurred across the stall catching deceased under one edge of it. There apparently were no false slips to account for the accident. It evidently resulted in consequence of a weighting of the place breaking the roof down. There was considerable carelessness on the collier's part in not having examined and sounded the roof more carefully and in having so much roof space without timber. The examiner seems also to have been slack in his duty.
