Deceased was working at the face in the Deep Seam, building the way-end cog on the rise side of the stall, when a piece of rock weighing about a ton fell from between two breaks in the roof and caught him on the heel, knocking him down to the down to the lower side of the stall road and killing him instantly. The roof a hard sandstone, but very jointy, was well timbered but the piece fell between the props.
