The accident occurred at the side of a level in the Thick Coal. The chargeman as getting a piece of coal off the side with a pick and deceased was standing close to the same side and three and a half yards distant from the point at which the coal was being pulled, when the fall came off at a break and extended further than was anticipated, and part of the coal fell upon deceased causing injuries from the effects of which be died in hospital on the same day. Had he stood on the opposite side of the road he would have been safe.
