- Details of Event
- As he was descending with seven others in the first cage load of night men he was struck in the neck behind the jaw by some blunt instrument which made a hole in, and also fractured the base of his skull. Whatever struck him had evidently fallen in the shaft and caught him, being the outside man. What it was or where it came from remains unknown. The shaft had been examined about 2.30pm or about 4 hours before the accident and again after it but nothing was found throwing light upon it. I am classifying it as ‘Things falling from Surface,’ but cannot say definitely that it is so.
