- Details of Event
- He was working on a stull, 7 feet below the backs of an overhand stops in a nearly vertical lode, when a piece of ground, 8 feet 6 inches long by 6 feet 3 inches wide by 15 inches average thickness, slipped off the hanging wall side and pulled him against the footwall, killing him instantly. He and his comrade had previously sounded this ground and found it of doubtful security. After trying unsuccessfully to pull it down with a bar they decided to blast it at the end of the shift. If, as a precautionary measure, the ground had been supported until they were ready to blast it the accident might have been avoided.
