A link in a 3-8 inch sling chain, which had evidently been made by the works blacksmith, broke as the steam crane was conveying a stone, about 4 cwt. over his head, resulting in the stone falling upon him. He had, in accordance with practice withdrawn from the place with other men upon the crane runner giving the usual signal, but, being anxious to get a stone marked for splitting he returned before the stone had cleared it.
